Systems for real work
Maintain and improve software without hiding the risk
For companies whose application works but changes are stressful, knowledge is fragmented, incidents recur, or the backlog grows faster than the system can safely evolve.
Signs of a fit
- releases are rare or unpredictable;
- recurring defects are patched without finding their cause;
- tests, monitoring, or operating notes are missing;
- ageing dependencies block product changes;
- technical and business priorities live in separate queues.
Example applications
Hypothetical examples include a takeover assessment, removing critical debt before a new feature, adding observability, modernising dependencies in stages, or establishing a rhythm of smaller releases.
Boundaries
We cannot responsibly estimate every repair before understanding the code, infrastructure, data, and release process. Maintenance should not disguise a product with no owner or purpose. High uncertainty may call for diagnosis and a stabilisation plan before feature work.
Delivery and client inputs
We begin with read-only access, a system map, quality checks, and a visible risk register. Work is prioritised and delivered in small changes with evidence. We need repository and operational documentation, production signals where safely available, and a product decision owner.
